Communicating in Teams

To Improve Communication

Communication lies at the heart of organizational work. Our information systems, our personnel systems, our tracking systems - in fact almost all organizational systems - are dependent on effective communication. With the advent of team-based and flatter organizations, communication has become even more important than it was before. But sorting out how communication impacts organizations can be difficult. Communication is so pervasive in organizational work that we often overlook it as a source of problems.

Tackle the most challenging communication problems with this program. We demonstrate the profound impact of poor communication then teach the skills needed to get communication back on track.

Participants will:

Discover the powerful impact of both ineffective and effective communication
Identify damaging communication techniques and environments
Improve communication behavior
Handle unique communication problems

This program is based on a simulation game.

Communicating for Understanding & Impact

This program increases individual and team results through interpersonal communication improvement. Through a series of experiential exercises, we illustrate the barriers that have the potential to create conflict and obstacles to effective communication and performance. We combine practical exercises with techniques that increase awareness and teach new skills.

Participants will:

Identify “Communication Best Practices” and performance feedback mechanisms needed to ensure “team” success

Explore issues that undermine or inhibit effective communication and teamwork

Gain insight and feedback into the “cause and effect” relationship between their actions and behavioral choices, and the results that they create

Develop a personal improvement plan that will guide them in the application of the new communication skills and behaviors they have learned

learn how to achieve accurate understanding by learning effective, timesaving communication behaviors that are essential

learn how to eliminate misunderstandings through inquiry

Participants will consider their own interpersonal communication skills and style as they develop an implementation plan to increase their personal effectiveness. This plan identifies any gaps that exist between current interpersonal business relationships that highly impact productivity and the desirable state of those relationships. Specific, time-bound steps are identified to close the gaps.

Ethical Leadership

For all leaders - upper management, middle management, front-line supervisors, and team leaders-ethics is essential to success. This workshop helps leaders understand the benefits of ethical behavior and to apply ethical principles in their roles as leaders. Using a well-defined system of understanding ethical decisions and choices, the workshop helps participants know how to choose the most ethical choices. We examine the concept of organizational social responsibility, seeing how values-based organizations today let principles and values guide participants in day-to-day decisions, as they avoid wrong behaviors and take active steps to do what's right. When they complete this program, participants will understand how to be ethical in their own actions, and how to lead others in their groups or organizations to be ethical.

Personality Types: To Increase Effectiveness

Personality Type is both fun for the participants, and strategic for the business. This workshop identifies individual participants' "preferred way of working" using the assessment tool of the Myers-Briggs (Personality) Type Indicator. With this model, participants can learn "type" to understand current issues, as well as anticipate future problems.

Workshop objectives:

Increase self-awareness and confirm self-perception.
Discover normal differences in people concerning: energy source, information gathering, decision making, and work style preferences.
Appreciate the gifts of self and others.
Learn how to capitalize on one's strengths and the strengths of others.
Apply the knowledge about personality type ú for the benefit of the business.
Help employees supplement less developed areas.

Knowledge of personality type builds productivity in such areas as managing time, projects, stress, and client needs.

Participants will go through a series of experiential activities to confirm their type. NOTE: No simulation or video is used.

US/Mexico Cultural Translator Program

This workshop is customized for organizations which have U.S. and Mexican employees working together ú focusing on a topic of major importance. That is, the cultural differences between the two groups. Both cultures have very different values, and patterns of behavior. There are two prescribed "correct ways to do business." Failure to understand these differences can limit productivity and hurt employee morale. This workshop can be delivered in English and Spanish.

Both American and Mexican Participants will:

Examine Working Cultural Generalizations that come from their two cultures of origin.
Confirm their own unique patterns of how people are "supposed to behave" while working for a company.
Identify areas of different cultural perceptions in key business functions and core competencies.
Participants will develop agreements that can bridge both sets of cultural preferences, where there are significant differences in approach.
Learn to leverage the strengths of both cultural patterns.

The tools to accomplish these objectives are 80+ differences in cultural patterns. These create the framework of understanding, as well as a method to talk about the differences in a constructive manner.

Participants will go through a series of experiential activities to confirm their cultural patterns. NOTE: No simulation or video is used.
